Some Cool Stuff

Goethe Institut KL invites you to the Official Launch of "OUT OF BERLIN"...
Thu 27 Mar 2008, 8pm (damn, missed it...)

The Annexe Gallery
2nd Floor, Central Market Annexe, KL.
Officiated by Dr Andreas Radtke,
First Secretary, German Embassy

It began with a group of 10 foreigners who came together for 10 days in Berlin in September 2005; they were guests of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute at the "Berlin Photography Festival 2005". They spontaneously decided to produce their own exhibition in a round-robin-way – each photographer shoots a picture, then passes it on to the next, who based on his interpretation of the previous picture, shoots another and passes that on, and so forth... The project now has 50 images from around the world!

Just in case you don't know yet, from the 25th-27th March (Tuesday to Thursday this week), a bunch of companies are going to come and give talks (about their companies, the industry, the professions involved, or about their projects). It's a good time to get to know what's going on in our industry, and also to get to know some of these people (who you just might end up working with someday). It might be a good idea to bring along your reels/portfolio/resume - who knows, they might be accepting interns.

Here's the schedule of the companies participating:

Tuesday:
  • 0900-1030 Hue Visualab
  • 1030-1200 Codemasters
  • 1400-1530 Young Jump
  • 1530-1700 Vision Animation
Wednesday:

  • 1030-1200 KRU Films

Good news : We managed to secure a catering service from TM, so breakfast, lunch, and tea will be provided for all FA people over the 3 days.

Greenlight Pictures is looking for a few good interns

Hi guys,

It's Ming Jin. My production house, Greenlight Pictures, is looking for one or two interns in its new offices.

Greenlight Pictures is a small company that produces mostly television shows, telemovies, etc.

The position trains the intern in ALL aspects of TV production, from working on pre-production, the shooting and also some post production work, including minor FX. The applicant must be interested in video production and not just animation, as this is not purely a post production position. Greenlight will also be working on other "art" projects as well, so an interest in design/drawing is encouraged.

The positions are competitive and based on talent and applicant's demonstration of willingness to learn and be creative. You will NOT spend all your time serving coffee or making photocopies, or doing nothing. Applicant must be disciplined and hard working.

Position: Production Intern
Duration: 8-16 weeks
Pay: Yes, competitive intern rates, and bonus for additional work. (It will be more than most
companies)
Location: Shah Alam Seksyen 9 (close to Batu Tiga commuter rail- transport from train station
can be arranged if it is a problem).
Start date: April or May 2008

If you are interested and think you fit the description of what we are looking for, please drop me a line at greenlightpicture@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Ming Jin

Storytelling Objects

Artist Talk by Eric Van Hove - Algerian artist based in Tokyo
This artist talk is part of the larger series of what the artist labels as "storytelling objects". Each uses a number of earlier works and interventions (some unfinished or never even shown) as the base for a display of ideas and ruminations believed to be more meaningfully conveyed through stories. Maybe here the travelling contemporary artist is in some way similar to the Kamishibai of Japan who, between the two world wars, was telling from the back of his bike different stories based on a number of picture cards.

Eric Van Hove graduated from E>R>G> in Brussels, studied Traditional Japanese Calligraphy (MFA, Tokyo) and obtained his Doctor of Arts from Tokyo Geidai University of Fine Arts and Music. He is based between Europe, Africa and Japan.

This talk is organized by Rumah Air Panas in collaboration with The Annexe Gallery.
Dates: Wed 12 Mar, 2008
Hours: 8pm
Venue: The Annexe Gallery, 2nd Flr, Central Market Annexe, KL
Admission: FREE!
Enquiries: 016 983 2916

Talking about the MATAHATIs
Panel Discussion

In conjunction with the ongoing 4-galleries spanning retrospective of leading contemporary art collective MATAHATI, this panel discussion focuses on the five artists and the role they have played in the Malaysian arts scene. The panellists include: Exhibition curator June Yap, writers Wong Hoy Cheong, Adeline Ooi, Ahmad Mashadi, Hasnul J. Saidon and Carmen Nge.

Comprising Ahmad Fuad Osman, Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Hamir Soib @ Mohamed and Masnoor Ramli Mahmud, MATAHATI was formed in the late 1980s. Since then, the members of this collective have carved their names in the Malaysian art scene through their activities and practice, accomplished either individually or together. MATAHATI – For Your Pleasure tells the story of the artists' early development through to recent explorations in their practice, reflecting upon their insights and study of concerns regarding identity, representation, humanity, community, social responsibility and religion.
