Soft Skill Training Workshop

As I had mentioned before, MDec and MMU are collaborating to offer FCM students training in soft skills (presentation, motivation and image skills, highlighted in RED below). There will be 2 classes during the June break, and they are free.

In the meantime, MDec will be on -campus to to give a briefing on this. Please see info below:

“Code” – Contemporary music composition

Ng Chor Guan (composer, laptop and electronics)
Ng Chor Guan gains his Bachelor of Arts (HONS) Music in Composition from Middlesex University in London. His diverse professional credits include music for concert, film, theater, dance, exhibition and multimedia. His music has been performed in a wide variety of mediums including orchestral, choral, chamber, and electronic music. Ng has participated in theatrical productions such as Antigone, Okiku- A Tragedy Retold, The Lost and The Ecliptic, Break-ing., The Curse of The Forbidden Palace, Whispers of Love, The ‘R’ Adventurous Drift and Nutcracker. He was nominated for 2008 Cameronian Arts Awards Most Promising Artist.

Yong Yandsen (bass clarinet)
Co-founder of SicKL, Yandsen is the veteran lead singer and band leader of the explosive Chinese rock band MoXuan who has now ventured into the realm of contemporary, music, free jazz and improvised music. He has acted in the independent short film by Kok Kai Foong, “Yandsen Can Do”. Besides making music, Yandsen is very good with driving directions.

Tham Kar Mun (clarinet)
Member of EMACM (Experimental Musicians & Artists Corporative Malaysia), Tham is the veteran guitarist of Chinese rock band ChongYang. In recent years, he has been exploring music in contemporary composition, improvisation and free jazz. Tham reads Lao Tze and likes to drink tea, slowly.

Kok Siew Wai (voice)
Co-founder of SicKL, a video artist and voice improviser. Siew Wai has spent much time organizing art events nowadays. She wanted to be a rocker during her teenage years but it never happened. Instead, she has been inspired greatly by composer Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening practice during her 7-year stay in USA, where it is a total contrast to rock.

JacAl Map – Experimental sounds
JacAl Map is a duo established in 2007. Jack is a musician and sound engineer while Alison is a student in New Era College Drama and Visuals Department. Their works uses sound extracted from everyday lives to create and explore sound that has an imaginative quality.

Ben Kong – Stand-up Show
He thinks he is funny, we all think he is funny. He doesn't want to reveal too much about himself in case he is not funny. Come meet the mystery man and ask him yourself!

Azmyl Yunor – Guitar Improv

Azmyl Yunor has dabbled in folk, rock n' roll, free-form, punk, and social sciences. He plays acoustic guitar, harmonica and sings his own songs. He records those songs and sells them. He also plays electric guitar, drums, keyboard, piano and the concertina. He is a co-founder of EMACM and Troubadours Enterprise. He is also a joker.

Reminder: Submit Your Lovely Thesis

Dear all, just a reminder of the thesis submission date:

Date: Monday, February 16th, 2009
Time: 11am - 12pm ONLY
Venue: Dr. Mai's room (Room 1047 Ground Floor, FCM)

Please submit the following to me:
  1. FA, ID, DM and MI (Group 2) Majors: 1 CD containing all your past assignments and softcopy of your final thesis. DO NOT submit any hardbound copy to me.
  2. MI Group 1: 1 hardbound thesis and 1 CD
  3. VR: I will collecting your 1 CD and 1 hard bound copy for Madam Natalya on her behalf. So you will be submitting 2 CDs to me on Monday.
  4. Please do not forget to sign your Declaration page in your thesis!
  5. Sign the submission sheet in Dr. Mai's office.

GENG : Pengembaraan bermula

HI everyone, just wanna post a little promotion stuff here. During my internship period, me and hidhir have been involved in this project called ‘Geng’. It was the Malaysian first 3d animated feature film and we should be proud that Malaysian capable of producing 3d animated feature film. I’ve watched the film and it was very interesting. The storyline is simple, fast and entertaining. The visual are also nice. This movie looks very Malaysian from the environment and storyline. It will be release on Malaysian cinemas starting 12th February 2009. So don’t forget to watch.

Synopsis :
Something disturbs the peace in the village of Kampong Durian Runtuh. Villagers tell of a fearsome beast lurking at night but no one dares to find out what it is until Badrol, Lim and their newfound friends stumble upon the very heart of the mystery itself. A small peculiar animal, not native of the forest befriends Rajoo and brings the whole gang into an adventure deep into the exotic Malaysian rainforest filled with dangerous animals including an age old mystical giant snake. Join the gang as they embark on a journey of action and adventure set upon the warm atmosphere of a Malaysian village enclosed by landscapes of greenery.

Rhythm & Hues coming to Cyberjaya


"Quality animation, visual effects, live action and design for entertainment and advertising"

Yes they will be coming to Cyberjaya, Malaysia and not just for a visit. But for real. Seriously this is smtg really big. Rhythm & Hues setting up a studio in Malaysia?!? (and they are eyeing on Cyberjaya to setup their studio)

Their plans are to be fully operational by end of 2009 with estimated 40 recruits to start with. Definitely something to look forward to.

SOL 004 December season will feature a multi-disciplinary performance by Chan Seau Huvi (performance art), Au Sow Yee (video), Yong Yandsen (video + sound) and Kok Siew Wai (voice), electroacoustic music by musician/music scholar Affendi Ramli and an experimental DJ set with light installation by Jazmok (Bintang Bendehara), Ronnie Khoo (Furniture), Fahmi Fadzil (Projek Wayang) & Lisa Foo.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS/MUSICIANS:

CHAN SEAU HUVI is a performance artist and a video artist. She is graduated from l’école superièure d’art d’Aix en Provence, France. Huvi starts producing videos for her performance since 2002. She is currently living and working in Kuala Lumpur.

AFFENDI HJ RAMLI born in Ipoh, Malaysia, currently he is a doctoral student, under supervision by Dr. Hasnizam Abdul Wahid at the Faculty of Arts and Creative, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Recently he has won the “Best Jury’s Selection Award 2007” in Bourges, Paris. Affendi Hj. Ramli is one of the music lecturers in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Tg. Malim, Perak, lecturing composition, violin and music technology. He received his Bachelor of Music from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia and Master of Arts in Audio Production from University Of Westminster, United Kingdom.

RONNIE KHOO is a recording enthusiast who works from a home studio. His projects include playing in rock bands, scoring for independent film, and tampering with electronic equipment to make them squeal in unexpected ways.

JAZMOK is a malaysian-based sound artist. His favourite music instruments are mobile gadgets,as the medium of producing his sound.He is interested in malay classical rhythm and other native cultures in malaysia.The sound characteristic of Jazmok is describe as various of oscilator wave and ambient with gong atmosphere. He loves experimenting with sound and had produce several of interactive installation while performing.

FAHMI FADZIL is a performer and writer. He is a member of Five Arts Centre, principal coordinator of Projek Wayang, and partner at Bright Lights At Midnight. Initiated in 2006, Projek Wayang is an experimentation group interested to search, investigate, explore and construct forms of wayang that resonates within an urban, contemporary and cosmopolitan context.

LISA FOO is the co-founder of FOTA Design in 2007 and a design practice in architecture, interior and sculpture. Graduated with BA in Architecture from the University of New South Wales, Sydney at the end of 2003, and after a spell of almost two years with a large commercial practice, Lisa has reveled in the opportunity to design an experimental private house in Kuala Lumpur to strike out on her own. Her involvement in the arts emerged in November 2007 when she was an artist participant at numerous 'Arts for Grabs' event organized by the Annexe Gallery, Central Market, Kuala Lumpur. In the event, her collaboration with her friend formed LFSS and created luminous eco-light sculpture from recycled plastic bottles.
