I know a sad little fairy...

Another Birth

My whole being is a dark chant
which will carry you
perpetuating you
to the dawn of eternal growths and blossoming
in this chant I sighed you sighed
in this chant
I grafted you to the tree to the water to the fire.

Life is perhaps
a long street through which a woman holding
a basket passes every day

Life is perhaps
a rope with which a man hangs himself from a branch
life is perhaps a child returning home from school.

Life is perhaps lighting up a cigarette
in the narcotic repose between two love-makings
or the absent gaze of a passerby
who takes off his hat to another passerby
with a meaningless smile and a good morning .

Life is perhaps that enclosed moment
when my gaze destroys itself in the pupil of your eyes
and it is in the feeling
which I will put into the Moon's impression
and the Night's perception.

In a room as big as loneliness
my heart
which is as big as love
looks at the simple pretexts of its happiness
at the beautiful decay of flowers in the vase
at the sapling you planted in our garden
and the song of canaries
which sing to the size of a window.

Ah
this is my lot
this is my lot
my lot is
a sky which is taken away at the drop of a curtain
my lot is going down a flight of disused stairs
a regain something amid putrefaction and nostalgia
my lot is a sad promenade in the garden of memories
and dying in the grief of a voice which tells me
I love
your hands.

I will plant my hands in the garden
I will grow I know I know I know
and swallows will lay eggs
in the hollow of my ink-stained hands.

I shall wear
a pair of twin cherries as ear-rings
and I shall put dahlia petals on my finger-nails
there is an alley
where the boys who were in love with me
still loiter with the same unkempt hair
thin necks and bony legs
and think of the innocent smiles of a little girl
who was blown away by the wind one night.

There is an alley
which my heart has stolen
from the streets of my childhood.

The journey of a form along the line of time
inseminating the line of time with the form
a form conscious of an image
coming back from a feast in a mirror

And it is in this way
that someone dies
and someone lives on.

No fisherman shall ever find a pearl in a small brook
which empties into a pool.

I know a sad little fairy
who lives in an ocean
and ever so softly
plays her heart into a magic flute
a sad little fairy
who dies with one kiss each night
and is reborn with one kiss each dawn.

Character Rigging

Fellows,

There is a very useful character rigging tutorial by Lynda.com:
"Maya 8.5 Character Rigging".

I don't have access to Bittorent. If you guys do, please try to download it. It will be a great help to CA people. You can take a look at the content of the video at this link.

I am willing to trade this tutorial to any video tutorial you are looking for! I have a great collection you can choose, like 11 DVDs about DYNAMIC and 4 titles about After Effects!

The Bravery - Honest Mistake

Something for the VFX folks to refer to. Bizzare Indeed....

VFX : Just to clear things up

Okay, I assume you guys have read the VFX project requirements from the intranet. If otherwise, here you go:
___________________________________________________________________________

VISUAL EFFECTS PROJECT BRIEF

This semester you will be involved in a photorealism project which will require you to create a 20 second video clip based on the theme 'Domino effect'. Each student is required to take a still image of a location of his/her choice, and create a believable cause and effect scenario using Rigid Body Dynamics.

Focus is given to the understanding and accuracy of the dynamic work, accurate modelling, realistic texturing and rendering techniques.

The main emphasis of this project is to demonstrate critical analysis on lighting and improve your observation skills. You are also required to include this in a Scrap book:
• A thorough analysis (written and illustrated) on selected image
• Project’s snapshots (in different stages), project’s development, experiments (photographs) and studies from other's work & references

Final video resolution should be at least 640x480 and compressed using Quicktime, WMV (Windows Media) or Divx (AVI) ONLY.

I hope this post will give you more imagination on what you're supposed to do. Here are some of the FAQs during Thursday's class. Credits to Jijoe.
___________________________________________________________________________

1. Pictures? Videos?
Yes, you can choose either one. For those who wants to use video, make sure the camera is locked. In other words, no cam movements.

2. No camera movements. But can I zoom in to focus on certain situation?
Jason brought this question up. Yes, you can zoom in, or pan, as long as the picture quality is good (your picture is big). The only downside of using these movements is that you're going to have to render the 3D objects at a really high resolution. Zooming and panning will also will make your final video looks fake because it's a flat picture, no parallax.

3. At least 5 chain reaction consequences. Can I do more?
As long as it fits the 20 seconds, yes.

4. Can I manually animate these consequences?
Nope. All dynamic events must be animated through dynamics.

5. What starts these chain of events? Accident? Triggered? (like the Rube Goldberg chain reaction machine)
The "trigger" for the chain of events could be anything, even if it looks like it's been set up (for example, a ball flying into the room through a window, or an earthquake tremor being the catalyst for the first object). The subsequent events must all be consequences from the first event.

6. Render resolution. 640x480 or PAL?
Minimum render is 640x480. You're even welcome to render it in HD! ^_^

7. For Tuesday's crit. What and how am I going to present? I'm not sure of my final pictures/videos/ideas yet, can I bring multiple pictures/videos/ideas?
Tuesday's crit is all about ideas and planning; so you can bring multiple ideas/photos, provided that you explain clearly what is going to happen in the scene (through drawings on the photo itself/a sequence of images/thumbnails/whatever/etc/etc). The point is to clearly demonstrate that you know what they're doing, and not make it up as the semester goes along. You can present your idea, as an image slideshow/video/flashfile/powerpoint... it's entirely up to you.
___________________________________________________________________________

P/S:

Faiz, your idea at the construction site is still pretty much lose, angle and planning-wise. You can still stay with your idea and probably scale it down, maybe INSIDE the construction site or somewhere just outside the building, not a long shot of it. But do come up with some more ideas and we could work things out from there.

Jason, your zooming in issue is pretty much answered ^_^

You guys would probably want to discuss among each other so that you won't have a same scene/ideas. Of course we don't want three guys with a same scene.

You guys have today, weekends, Monday and early Tuesday to prepare for this. Any doubts, you know what to do. You have four different people to ask ^_^

Cheerio

Domino-what?

Some community you guys have here. Pretty neat.

I'm still looking for some good reference for VFX people but here are some cool stuff for you guys to watch.

Honda Cog advertisement Ali showed yesterday which was not fully downloaded

Honda Cog : The making of... (apparently, it's real. Is it?)

Rube Goldberg (wiki it) like Chain Reaction 3D animation (with added drama and cinematography). This might be the closest reference to what you're doing.

Subject: Course Overlapping

Dear Mr. Azhar,

Hereby I wanted to inform you that the COMPUTER MODELLING & ANIMATION (MC201) has overlapping syllabus with DIGITAL ANIMATION that we have passed in Beta year.

Computer Modeling & Animation is thought by the
same lecturer as Digital Animation Madam Juhanita bt. Jiman. And she is covering the same course outline as we have learned in previous
subject. Even assignment for both courses are the same with a minor change. One assignment is the same assignment that F&A student has done in Animation Process last semester. After long discussion with Madam Juhanita, it was concluded to talk to you about these issues.

However we are already in second week and 1/4 of the semester
is over it would be so kind of you to take this matter into consideration as fast as possible. I would like an opportunity to discuss this issue further.

Sincerely yours
Alireza

Hello FASS!!! First post...hehe.

Hey hey hello everyone...this is Afyv...i *just* got invited by Val to join this blog...hahaha...well actually she already *tried* to invite me to this blog long time ago...but that time i gave her Y!M ID which is invalid, coz i spelled it wrongly (actually, its my poor handwriting, heh sorry!). It's not until the first class of this semester when i gave my Y!M ID to her again, and this time she's able to invite me properly with no problem. Hehehe...btw thanks Val for inviting me again. :D

Well, a lil bit of intro, my name is Afyv or real name Wan Afif. I'm the shy guy in the class who always sit in the corner (heh, really?). My main interest in this field is Visual Effects and Image Editing/Manipulation. Altho for this latest sem...i have more tendencies towards CA. Dunno why...i just wanna try sumthin new and more challenging. Hehe. And also, while being a very strict Maxer, i will also *try to* attemp my CA assignment in Maya. Yeah, i guess thats challenging enough for me. I hope i can do well. I dun want to be lazy anymore this sem.

T_____T

Anyway, nice meeting with u guys. Here's a bit of something i did recently to share with u guys.

Give a break

Life's lesson #1 - Don't be a tool.

Hello FA-ians! This is my first entry to your blog. Good to see that you are all writing for a change. I don't really have anything to say at this point in time but thank you for asking me to join your blog. I have one tip to all of you - part of being a successful person is to also know finance and economics too. Sounds boring..yes.. but you will not know how the world functions without them.

You don't want to be a "tool" for the rest of your life, I hope.

COMPUTER MODELING AND ANIMATION!!

Hi everybody,
I am not gonna talk to Mr. Azhar, head of FA department. It's your turn now to stand up for your rights. It's a private university and you are paying for every minutes you are sitting in the class. You can make this university a better place to study. But of course I will be available for any kind of help and support anytime you call me.

Are You Beautiful?

I was reading some articles about the word "Beauty" It is very interesting topic! Specially when it talks about the inner beauty! girls don't miss that part!!! you gonna be angry with the results of the research! I am sharing some part of the article here. if you like to read more some links are mentioned at the end. I chose "Are you beautiful?" as title of this post since I know it is going to draw everybody's attention ;)

...When images of human faces are averaged together to form a composite image, they become progressively closer to the "ideal" image and are perceived as more attractive. This was first noticed in 1883, when Francis Galton, cousin of Charles Darwin, overlayed photographic composite images of the faces of vegetarians and criminals to see if there was a typical facial appearance for each. When doing this, he noticed that the composite images were more attractive compared to any of the individual images. Researchers have replicated the result under more controlled conditions and found that the computer generated, mathematical average of a series of faces is rated more favorably than individual faces.[8]

Another feature of beautiful women that has been explored by researchers is a waist-to-hip ratio of approximately 0.70 for women. The concept of waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) was developed by psychologist Devendra Singh of the University of Texas at Austin. Physiologists have shown that this ratio accurately indicates most women's fertility. Traditionally, in premodern ages when food was more scarce, overweight people were judged more attractive than slender.

...

Inner beauty is a concept used to describe the positive aspects of something that is not physically observable.

While most species use physical traits and pheromones to attract mates, humans claim to rely on the inner beauty of their choices. Qualities including kindness, sensitivity, tenderness or compassion, creativity and intelligence have been said to be desirable since antiquity. However new research comparing what humans claim to find attractive to their actual mating habits underlines the superficiality of "inner beauty," underlining the fact that the human animal relies on physical traits and pheromones just like every other animal to find a mate. That said, whether "inner beauty" does or does not measurably affect humans' mating habits, some traits classified as "inner beauty" do give an evolutionary survival advantage to either the individual or mating couple or group or all three.

Production of "Punggok Rondukan Bulan"

As Mr. Woo introduce that we can involve and join in the production team by contact with Mr. Amir. In Holiday I did call Mr.Amirbecause the production venue is so near with my home town, so i have no reason for me to reject on the production, sumore is a film production that i never been. In the end i decided to try on it. (Broken English rite? T.T)

This is Mr. Amir-my roomate in hotel too. Nice guy.
Mr. Amir arranged me to be the continuity supervisor, sound cool! I agak agak noe what is it before i go to the production. The production had started on 16th oct, but I am having my trip in Terrengganu that time. I joined the production on 20th Oct.
I promised the Vise producer-Ms.Marge Bong(Sorry if I type wrong spelling, because I am suck in remember person's name) that 8.00am will reach the lobby of the hotel. Then I reached there 7.30am and woke up her. XD Feel so sorry.
*Oooops.. forgot to inform that Mr.Amir is the Producer and Ms. Chui Mui is the Executive Producer.
I am the only one trainee in the production and I am having a fun mood to the production. In the beginning, I tot it is fun and enjoy things, but now i noe that i am wrong, ya U may enjoy but it is a job, a work. U cant play with it.
Okay, Working have to be serious and giving ur best all the time, i mean my best. Khaider is the conti and making of person. I am going to help him to handle conti and he do the making of. So, he is the first person who teach me about conti there. U write this, do that, see this, remember that.... bla bla bla. and i start handle the conti stuff on the first day afternoon.
The guy shooting there is Khaider, a very friedly guy. The Girl is Nikki-her job i forgot what is the name alr.. muahaha..
*Oooops... forgot to inform that conti is Continuity and his job is board in the Scene, Shot, Take in to the screen and mark down in file. Beside that conti have to remember the detail of the scene and take. Now doing what scene, what the character do and how and bla bla bla..... because the director or assistance director will simply ask u that " just now the "budak" using which hand to hold his bag." SO conti have to tell him with a very sure answer. T.T
The fierce person in the production is not the director (although he is quite fierce when yelling) but assistance director who called Mr.Khairul from indon. He is the one who order us to do this do that and yelling on us when we didt get the job well or not understand his order. He like to drink "Kopi-O" so much. He like children very much and treat children much much more better. He told me that Director have to be beloved and Assistance Director have to be the Bustard. So, i think he is so fierce is totally for his job only, suddenly feel that he is so professional in his job.

The guy in the photo is Mr.Khairul and the girl is Ms.Marge Bong. They are discussing the call sheet. XD
The second day i get quite much anger from Mr.Khairul. He ask me to help this help there and keep ordering me to do the jobs that is not my area like gaffer and setting. I am so down that day but chill up with the words "U wan to be "someone"(geng person) then u have to do everything detail." from the Cameraman- Mr.Sidi. Ya, right! Mr. Khairul is giving me chance to learn. Why i have to think that he is trying to make me suffer? HAHA.. be positive thinking man!
The small "budak" is our main actor. His name is Acik, like macik. XD muahahaha. And the guy is the CameraMan-Mr.Sidi. Is a very friendly and serious guy. He is so professional in handling his job. RESPECT*
Slowly i know the Audioman. He is cool and nice. His name is Mr. Fadzil. He seldom did wrong anything in the production and good performance in the production. Everyone is so Professional in their area of work included him.

Audio Man -Mr.Fadzil. He promised me to help me get some cheap PA system if i need it. muahahhaaa..
A very nice guy that I cant miss him in this blog. He is the Art Director(sorry if wrong)-Mr Ghazali. The person who settle everything in the setting. He like a magician in the production. Director want a new bed, few minute he bringing a bed(dunno come from where) to the venue. Director want the house back to 20 years ago.. then he move here move there and change the house perfectly. Director wan to cut off all the tree beside the river. He didt say anything and bring a parang into the jungle and start cut off the trees. He get much biten by red ants. Kesian~~~
Mr Ghazali- who said thank you after every help he get. XD very cute and responsible guy. He like me help him to pen tattoo on his arm. hahaha..
The biggest things i get from the production i feel is not the money and even not the experiences. That is this guys i knew in the production. Forsure this is just part of them, there are more i didt introduce here. Most of them are friendly and would like to share their experience, Like Mr.Woo said most is not all..
I'm so happy that i know them as my friend. It is more suffer in the production i feel it is more memorable after it. I did Learnt a lot that is not for production. I learnt to be thinking positive, find a minor happiness be my joy for wholeday and bla bla bla....
Thanks guys.. hope to see u guys again in future.

And looks like he's up to some kinda cool project this time.

Shouldn't we go support him or what?? ;)
